Ration Challenge

Two of our deacons, Craig and Susan are raising money for overseas refugees this week on Concern Worldwide’s “Ration Challenge”.

For 7 days all they will have to eat and drink will be based on a typical Syrian refugee’s rations, the money they raise from this will go to help supply emergency food, hygiene kits and lifesaving support to those in need, hit double now as COVID affects the world.

As you can see from the picture this is no luxury life, indeed friends on seeing the rations for the first time have often commented “You can’t live on that!”. Yet for so many this is not a choice but simply a daily reality for years, the alternative returning to a war zone.

Ration ChallengeMeals need to be carefully planned to make maximum use of the supplies, without wasting anything. Water from the sardines, that is a sauce for your rice tomorrow as is the juice from the beans, oh and those sardines need to stretch over 3 days… Around this they still need to do all the usual things of being working parents.
Why do this? Well apart from the obvious being able to provide food through the donations to those who need it, others who have done the challenge speak of how it changed them. It brings a realisation of just how blessed we are, a new appreciation to life and limiting waste for the sake of others. We can chose to ignore, or show we are #inthistogether

What can you do to help? Visit the ration challenge and learn more of the situation in the world. Pray for Craig, Susan and all those taking part in the challenge, as well as those in

the camps around the world. If you can spare money to sponsor them it would be gratefully received. Their team fundraising page can be found here: https://www.rationchallenge.org.uk/t/magicaldreamers opens in new window
